Surviving the Losses

Everybody knows you can't win every game, every day and at some point you're going hit a streak where you feel like you're losing constantly. Everyone also knows the house typically has the edge and they are at the very mercies of Lady Luck and her mood of the day. The difference in wise players and rookies comes from knowing how to survive the losses without having a meltdown and going over the edge.

Every poker player knows that going tilt is one of the worst things they can do for their game. If you're unfamiliar with tilt, this is a poker term that refers to becoming overly emotional and losing grip during the game. Tilt can cause the player to make bad decisions regardless of the game they are playing. If you're on a losing streak at the slots and your emotions overcome you, you may find yourself increasing your bet dramatically. Doing so does nothing more than make you lose money faster than you did before you became emotional and you are essentially going tilt at the slot machines.

The best thing you can do when you realize that you are losing more than you are winning is to take a deep breath and collect your emotions. It is sad when emotions are so high that people in a casino start to kill. Once you have regained your composure you can either change your game or simply stop playing altogether. At some point you're losing streak will break and you can go back to playing and possibly even winning. The key lies in maintaining composure and making rational decisions.

Home is where the heart is

If you like a game of poker every now and then, you know it’s about more than the game and the winning, it’s also about the socialization and good friends. You gather around the table with your buddies, have a couple of drinks with some snacks and have a great time. You don’t have to go the local casino to get this, just think about the old saying, ‘home is where the heart is’ and simply add three more suites of cards and you’ve got a game.

If your spouse doesn’t like you being out all hours of the night playing cards at some online casino, you can compromise and have a weekly poker night at your house. You will be able to be home like your spouse wants and yet you also get your weekly poker night. It doesn’t take much to put a poker night together, all you need is a room away from the hustle and bustle of the kids, a table and deck of cards some cold beer and drinks and you have it planned. Your spouse will thank you for being home and your friends will thank you for a great night of cards and friendship.

If you like the idea and you want to keep your poker games home instead of in the casino you can your pals can rotate houses. Every week will be a different house and you won’t have to worry about being out on the highway going to the casino. If you are worried about the fund for drinks and snacks, you can all pitch in to keep a fund going each week or simply rotate it according to whoever's house the poker night is being held at, it all works out the same.
